Gene database of Methanosarcina acetivorans C2A

Known to produce methane, <i>Methanosarcina acetivorans</i> C2A is an archaea commonly found in deep-sea hydrothermal vents, and trash dumps. Although unicellular, cells of <i>M. acetivorans</i> could form multicellular clumps and exhibit cellular differentiation. This work sought to provide fundamental information about the genetic repertoire of <i>M. acetivorans</i> by parsing its annotated genome sequence downloaded from GenBank. Comprising gene name, gene function, and gene sequence, the resource should be useful for neophytes in the field of archaea microbiology to gain initial understanding of the genetic endowment and metabolic capabilities of this relatively less-studied microorganism.
