Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) is a healthy and nutritious vegetable crop widely consumed around the world. Its immature fruits are good sources of essential minerals, vitamins, amino acids and edible dietary fibers. Noteworthy, okra fruits age rapidly after they meet harvest standards. Currently, the molecular mechanism underlying the rapid aging of okra fruits remains unclear. Thus, analyzing the expression patterns of key genes in the early developmental stage of okra fruits will facilitate our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms regarding fruits aging. However, the relationship between the transcriptome and the dynamic regulation of early development is still uncharacterized in the okra. Here, we performed transcriptome analysis of okra fruit development stages, aiming to understand the dynamic molecular regulation of early development in this crop.
