Parity is associated with maternal gut microbiome composition during pregnancy and offspring microbiome composition in pigs

Shotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal samples collected from 18 pregnant sows at days 37 (beginning) and 114 (immediately pre-farrowing) of pregnancy reveal that parity is associated with changes in the porcine gut microbiome at the end, and not the beginning, of pregnancy. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal swabs from 3 offspring from each mother 10 days after birth reveals that maternal parity is associated with the early infant gut microbiome composition.
