A global annual water cover percentage product for the period 2000–2022 that captures seasonal variations in water bodies. This product quantifies the ratio of water-covered observations within a given year. It has global coverage, with a spatial resolution of 500 meters and an annual temporal resolution. A recognition algorithm developed to reflect seasonal water body variations estimates seasonal water cover by leveraging more reliable land distribution datasets. The product can reflect the coverage extent and lifecycle of intermittent water bodies, and enables the inclusion of seasonal fluctuations when analyzing interannual changes in water surfaces.
