Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway: freight volume 2020-2021

In 2021, some 480,000 metric tons of freight were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, significantly up from 267,000 metric tons handled the previous year. Baku-Tbilisi-Kars is one of the most important railway projects in recent years since it is directly connected to the China's major Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project. The Belt and Road Initiative project is a global infrastructure development project for increasing trade between Asia and Europe.
