Each player constructs a deck of 30 cards along with a hero, which has a unique power, with players being able to buy more cards from packs, much like the (offline) card games Magic: The Gathering and the Pokémon Trading Card Game. As of April 2024, eSports player Maverick, the gamer tag of Michaël Looze, earned a total of approximately 63 thousand U.S. dollars in professional Hearthstone tournaments, making him the top earner in Belgium in this game.
