LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA: North Burnett Regional Council

LOCATION: The resource is situated approximately 9 kilometres northwest of Biggenden and 70 kilometres south-west of Bundaberg (See Map KRA 138).

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE: Quarry Rock

EXTRACTIVE RESOURCE DESCRIPTION: The resource consists of basalt up to 20 metres thick overlying an older basalt layer. Overburden is variable, generally less than 3 metres thick in place. The basalt appears to extend into the adjacent property to the west. A small quarry (Muan Quarry) produced a wide range of aggregates for a number of years and although the quarry is no longer operating significant resources remain.

SIGNIFICANCE: The former Muan Quarry had a considerable resource of hard rock suitable for production of specified material such concrete aggregate, asphalt screening and road base supplying a large part of the North Burnett region. It is conveniently located to transport routes, and substantial resources remain that is sufficient for more than 25 years of supply. As such the deposit meets the criteria for State significance of production level, deposit volume, and regional supply.

SEPARATION AREA: The site is situated in an area that has low relief. Future development in the property would not be well-screened from surrounding land therefore a maximum of 1000 metres separation distance from the resource/processing area boundary is applied.

TRANSPORT ROUTE: Material can be transported along the sealed Muan Road then eastwards along Gooroolba Biggenden Road to Biggenden and onto the Isis Highway.
