资源简介:
AC archaeology undertook the excavation of a Late Roman coin hoard at Gatcombe Ash, near Seaton in Devon during November 2013. The hoard had been located by a metal detectorist and comprised copper alloy coins deposited within an irregular pit, cut into the underlying clay with flint geology. Fragments of highly degraded organic material preserved below the coins and a number of corroded ferrous fragments indicated that the hoard had possibly been held in a fabric or leather bag with metal fittings. The pit and upper part of the coin hoard appeared to have been truncated by later deep ploughing, with a number of coins recovered from the subsoil both above the main coin deposit and in a scatter to the west. The coins are of fourth century date and the context of their deposition is unknown.
