The aim of this work is testing a natural exciting phenomenon suggesting thatsuppression of genes inducing programmed cell death (PCD) might help the plant cells totolerate abiotic stresses more efficiently. PCD-related genes were first induced in tobaccounder oxalic acid (OA) treatment (20 mM) and plant cells were characterized at thebiochemical and molecular levels to confirm the incidence of PCD. The results indicatedthat PCD was triggered after 24 hours of exposure to OA. Then, RNAs were extractedfrom tobacco cells after 0, 2, 6, 12 and 24 h in three replicates for deep sequencing.Filtered reads were aligned with up to two mismatches to the tobacco
