Civilian Master File Extract, September 2003-September 2005

<p>These files were obtained from the United States Department of Defense Office of Freedom of Information in November 2008. They were sent in response to a Freedom of Information Act request (number 06-F-1417) submitted on behalf of a Cornell graduate student in support of his research. The files contain point-in-time “slices” from the available data for the month of September for 2003, 2004, and 2005. They contain selected variables from the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC) Civilian Master File data file that can be released under a FOIA request. The request was submitted by CISER in May 2006. In July 2006, a DoD FOIA officer supplied a file layout of fields, “FOIA Extract Record Format June & September 2005.” He indicated that the only information that would be removed or not made available would be name, duty station, and bargaining unit. Fields marked N represent fields that the DMDC does not maintain as part of its Civilian Master File. The field layout (which does not correspond to the files we received) and data dictionary are the only documentation provided by the originating agency.</p>
