Cultures of each strain were spot plated on a soft agar mixed with A. tumefaciens traG-lacZ biosensor strain and supplemented with X-Gal and IPTG. The blue halo indicates AHL production by A. baumannii which triggers the cleavage of X-gal by the A. tumefaciens biosensor strain. Empty miniTn7 controls are presented in S8 Fig.
