Viral diversity of wild duck. Anas spp.

The objective is to know and characterize the community of avian and non avian viruses in the final part of the gut (cloaca) of wild migratory ducks (Anas spp.). This project will allow to know and to expand the knowledge of the RNA and DNA virus families in migratory wild ducks in their natural habitat where they share the ecosystem with diverse species of aquatic birds, as well as with plants, insects, and organisms during their winter stay in Mexico. The nucleotide database of viruses sequences (obtained from random sequencing) will allow to increase the information of viral diversity in waterfowl and their habitat in Mexico. Also, database will contribute to the knowledge of viruses in aquatic ecosystems in Mexico, necessary to understand the process of adaptation, transmission and pathogenesis in the host and its possible impact on public and animal health.
