Tarsila do Amaral from a museological regard: reviewing premises in temporary exhibitions (2008-2019)

ABSTRACT Between 2008 and 2019, the work of Tarsila do Amaral featured in important museum institutions, such as Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (Tarsila Viajante, 2008), The Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) (Tarsila do Amaral: Inventing Modern Art in Brazil, 2017 and 2018), and Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) (Tarsila Popular, 2019). This paper is interested in understanding how the local readings about the artist differ from that made by the hegemonic center.
