German as a Foreign Language FAQ - ResearchHelpDesk - German as a Foreign Language (GFL) is a fully refereed academic journal which aims to promote research and teaching in the field of German Language. It will publish articles in English and German on all aspects of German language teaching and learning, including the intercultural aspects involved in this process and the specific perspectives on learning and teaching German outside the German-speaking countries. The journal is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Goethe-Institut and is published three times a year – in April, September, and December. It is available free of charge on the internet. GFL does not charge article processing charges or submission charges. GFL is an open-access journal, which allows readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of its articles and allow readers to use them for any other lawful purpose. Reuse of material from GFL is permitted with attribution for non-commercial purposes. GFL features theoretical and applied contributions to the following areas: German as a foreign language Language learning theories Use of technology in language learning (CALL, Internet, etc.) Testing, measuring and monitoring students' performance Teacher education and development Intercultural approaches to the teaching of German General and country-specific problems of intercultural communication Development of intercultural competence (education and training) Problems in interpreting and translating between two cultures Country-specific contributions on stocktaking, needs and demand Learning German for speakers of English Country-specific contributions on the teaching and learning of German and cross-cultural awareness German for general purposes German for special purposes Teaching techniques Teaching materials development Evaluation of new language learning materials Language teaching resources Autonomous learning Exchange programmes and residence abroad
