Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis (LC), andhepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The evolution of gut microbiota during the progression of HBV-related liver diseases is unclear. We thus investigated the characteristics of gut microbiota at different stages of HBV-related liver diseases. Patients with HBV-related liver diseases and healthy individuals were prospectively enrolled. The 16S rRNA amplicon sequence analyses were performed to characterize the gut microbiota composition and functional metagenomics. Overall, 56 healthy controls, 14 resolved HBV infection (resolved- HBV), 58 chronic hepatitis B (CHB), 34 advanced liver disease (ALD, 15 LC and 19 HCC) patients were collected.
