FDI Fragmentation Replication

This provides instructions, code, and publicly available data to replicate the results in "Breaking Up: Fragmentation in Foreign Direct Investment". This paper investigates different forms of fragmentation in FDI, across many types of FDI. All of the code necessary to replicate the results in the paper has been included. The data necessary to replicate the analyses of U.S. direct investment abroad and investment between pairs of countries have also been included; these datasets are publicly available. However, the data for analyzing fragmentation in M&A, new FDI projects, and multinationals' capital expenditures are proprietary and cannot be shared without a license. If you have access to these datasets, you can use the provided code to replicate the results.
