This register contains all volunteer land orders in the Land District of Young, kept by the Wagga Wagga Land Board Office.The top of the first page reads: 'Under sections 44 and 45 of the Volunteer Regulation Act of 1867'. This refers to the Volunteer Force Regulation Act of 1867 (31 Vic. No.5) which provided for free grants of land to those volunteers who provided a certificate showing five years' efficient service from the officer commanding the Volunteer Force. Section 30 of the Crown Lands (Amendment) Act 1908 (Act No.30, 1908) limited free grants to those applied for within three years commencing from 1 February 1909.This register contains information such as the number of the order, name and address of the applicant, description of the land, description of the certificate, the area, and how the application was dealt with, whether it was granted or refused and the date of the decision, and then any further remarks are recorded.
