Six bulk soil samples from alluvial deposits along Las Banos Creek in the eastern foothills
of the Diablo Range near San Luis Reservoir, California, were floated to recover charcoal and
other organic remains suitable for radiocarbon dating. These sediments were sampled in order
to determine if the geologic history of the Ortigalita fault could be studied in detail at this locality.
Botanic components and detrital charcoal were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable
material was separated.
