Coupled atmospheric moisture and trade networks reveal a concentration of global freshwater risk in a handful of countries

Description: This repository contains the code, input data, and output data accompanying the paper Coupled atmospheric moisture and trade networks reveal a concentration of global freshwater risk in a handful of countries - Fahrländer et al. [...] The repository is organised into two archives: moisture_to_trade_pathways-1.0.0.zip contains the Python analysis code and all input data required to reproduce the analysis, including scripts for data preprocessing, construction of coupled atmospheric moisture and virtual water trade networks, computation of network metrics (asymmetry index, moisture-to-trade exposure, and mediator knock-out experiments), and postprocessing routines for plotting and statistics. This folder is a release version of this GitHub repository: https://github.com/sifa4152/moisture_to_trade_pathways.git data_output.zip contains primary results and data generated by the analysis, including derived network metrics and processed datasets required to reproduce the figures and tables presented in the paper. All code is written in Python. See the README file included in the code archive for instructions on how to run the analysis pipeline and for more information on data sources and requirements.
