资源简介:
A team from the University of Otago and Antarctica New Zealand deployed a semi-automonous sea ice mass balance station onto the landfast sea ice of McMurdo Sound to record ice temperature profiles and snow depths throughout a large portion of the sea ice cover's growth season. The ice temperature profiles were recorded by a custom-built temperature probe designed by the University of Otago. The probe consisted of twenty thermistors contained within a 10 mm x 10 mm plastic conduit. The probe was approximately 3 m in length. The spacing of the thermistors in the probe was variable. A technical fault occurred in the probe shortly after deployment which affected the quality of the recorded temperatures. When the probe was retrieved it was further discovered that it had bent out of shape at some unknown point in the deployment. Therefore, both the recorded temperatures and depths within the ice of each thermistor are considered to be of a low quality and should not be used without consulting the event manager. The snow depths were measured with a Campbell Scientific ultrasonic sensor (SR50) and are considered to be a high quality data set.
