Cerrena unicolor belongs to the group of white-rot fungi and is growing mainly on live or dead logs of many hardwood trees: Fraxinus excelsior, Betula sp., Salix sp., Acer sp., Malus sylvestris, Sorbus sp., Aesculus hippocastanum. The data describing adaptation of C. unicolor for decomposition of various wood kinds, enzymes engaged in this process and influence of environmental factors (e.g. light), are still lacking. To explore the metabolic potential engaged by Cerrena unicolor FCL139 for wood degradation, the transcriptomes of the fungus growing on birch, ash, and maple sawdust were analyzed and compared with the control liquid medium. Moreover, the influence of light on wood metabolism of C. unicolor was analyzed by RNAseq approach. The basis of the research was the hypothesis that C. unicolor adaptation to efficient decomposition of various wood kinds is mainly due to the ability of producing high amounts of several wood degrading enzymes with different characteristics. Moreover, the presented project comprise transcriptomic data obtained from fungal cultures in different lightning conditions (darkness and different light wavelengths), which may influence the production of enzymes and secondary metabolites in C. unicolor. The obtained results should allow to elucidate the strategies employed by fungus in adaptations to the environmental changes.
