We aimed to develop a deeper understanding of spatial variation of the healthy human skin microbiome. We also aimed to probe the drivers of interpersonal variation. We sampled transects (x and y) of the forehead and forearm by swabbing the skin of volunteers, and we also sampled a depth profile (z) by tape stripping. Sampling was combined with quantifications of skin properties as well as detailed questionnaires.
