Antimicrobial resistance is becoming more prevalent in healthcare. With antibiotic potency gradually diminishing, alternative antimicrobial agents are of priority. Lactic acid bacteria as a potential natural antimicrobial reservoir has been of interest lately. Therefore, this study was aimed to mine the L. plantarum PA21 genome for potential antimicrobial compounds. Furthermore, the antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties of L. plantarum PA21 cell-free supernatant against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae was investigated in vitro.
