Rothia mucilaginosa is a Gram-positive organism that is considered part of the normal flora of the oropharynx and upper respiratory tracts. Invasive infections have been primarily associated with immunocompromised states, but in immunocompetent individuals they are less frequently described. We report a case of infective endocarditis caused by R. mucilaginosa, and examine the characteristics of the genome of the isolate causing this infection.
