<b>The Impact of Vitiligo on Pregnancy and Perinatal Outcome: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis</b>

Background: The connection between some systemic autoimmune diseases and obstetric complications has been widely reported, but the association between vitiligo and pregnancy outcomes remains unknown. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the impact of vitiligo on pregnancy and perinatal outcomes. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched for studies comparing pregnancy and perinatal outcomes in women with and without vitiligo. This study followed MOOSE guidelines. A random-effects model was used to calculate the OR and 95% CI. Results: Four studies involving 245,480 individuals were included, of which 6,743 were individuals with vitiligo. Pregnant women with vitiligo had a significantly higher chance of spontaneous abortion (OR 1.26; 95% CI [1.17, 1.36]), but a significantly lower chance of cesarean delivery (OR 0.93; 95% CI [0.87, 0.99]) than pregnant women without vitiligo. Gestational diabetes, preeclampsia/eclampsia, intrauterine growth retardation, preterm delivery, and stillbirth were not significantly different between the groups. Limitations: The included studies used data retrospectively and lacked detailed information on the extent, duration, and treatment of vitiligo, which prevented their inclusion in our analysis. Conclusion: This study found that pregnant women with vitiligo exhibit a higher likelihood of abortion and a decreased likelihood of cesarean delivery compared to women without vitiligo.
