资源简介:
The Southern Deep Freeze Range, Northern Foothills and Inexpressible Island in North Victoria Land, have been geologically investigated in the past. The granites of this area belong to a completely different suite from those of the South Victoria Land batholith which ended along the upper Priestley Glacier. In particular, the Terra Nova batholith lacked the widespread Larsen Granodiorite - Irizar Granite association. A belt of contact metamorphosed, but low regional grade semi-pelitic and calcareous sedimentary rocks along the upper Priestley Glacier were named Priestley Formation. This expedition was aimed at completing the geological survey of the upper Black Ridge - Corner Glacier - Boomerang Glacier area, the eastern central Northern Foothills - Cape Russell area and central and western Inexpressible Island. The specific outcomes included mapping and measuring the Priestley Formation sections in O'Kane Canyon and along O'Kane Glacier and at Lowry Bluff, to complete the granite - metasedimentary mapping from upper Black Ridge - Corner Glacier to Boomerang Glacier including sampling Dickason granite on Mt Dickason, and to complete the mapping of Inexpressible Island and Vegetation Island.
