Sediments of glacial lakes from Western Balkans are unexplored natural treasure and represent a challenge regarding their microbial genomic and metabolic potential. Therefore, the main objective of this project was to examine and to elucidate potential of microbial metagenomes from sediments of glacial lakes. Data mining of these metagenomes could be a good framework for finding novel antimicrobial compounds, as well as novel secondary metabolites with importance for biotechnology, medicine and pharmacy.
