Pilot observational study of bird frequency and behaviour in the city of Vaughan from the period of September 25, 2020 to September 28, 2020. The purpose of the study was to identify common bird species and observable behaviour in local neighbourhood locations. Every day during dusk, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 60-minute observations were conducted to maintain consistency in the time of observation between locations. Data was collected at one of the following sites each day, respectively: Davos & Pine Valley park, Crofters Pond, William Glan Jay Greenway Trail and Fossil Mountain Pond. An area located approximately 250 metres from the start of William Glan Jay Greenway Trail was chosen to maintain a singular point of observation consistent with other locations. A binocular was used to observe behaviours in locations where bird visibility was relatively low. Behaviours noted were accurately defined through ethograms used in an online peer-reviewed journal paper (Katajamaa et al., 2018).
