IAI-Data-CRN_012_Marchesini_Chusqu: Monitoring of the demography of Chusquea culeou seedlings

During 2001 a native forest in the South of Argentina experienced the
massive flowering and death of the bamboo Chusquea culeou, a dominant
understory species. We proposed to assess the impact of this event on:
a) the environmental factors and b) the population dynamics of forest
vegetation. We recorded air and soil temperature, relative air
humidity and light intensity under two conditions: death and green
bamboo. We also registered the survirvoship, growth and herbivory
rates on Nothofagus nervosa, a canopy dominant tree and Chusquea
culeou seedlings. We monitored the demography of Chusquea culeou
seedlings. We recorded the number of seedlings of Chusquea culeou in
0.5 by 0.5 plots in two conditions: green and dead bamboo. We marked
each seedling with a toothpick of a different colour for each
ocassion.
