A LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS IN INTERNET DISCOURSE IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK LANGUAGES

This study explores the linguistic features of conceptual metaphors in internet discourse in English and Uzbek languages. The research aims to identify how metaphorical expressions function in digital communication and how they reflect cognitive and cultural patterns in both linguistic communities. By applying the theoretical framework of conceptual metaphor theory, the study analyzes authentic examples collected from social media platforms, online forums, and digital texts. The findings reveal that internet discourse is rich in metaphorical constructions that simplify complex ideas, express emotions, and enhance communicative effectiveness. In both English and Uzbek languages, conceptual metaphors are frequently used to describe abstract domains such as emotions, technology, time, and social interaction. However, the study also demonstrates that while some metaphors are universal due to shared human cognition, others are culturally specific and reflect national mentality and linguistic traditions. Furthermore, the research highlights the role of internet discourse in generating new metaphorical patterns influenced by globalization, technological advancement, and intercultural communication. The comparative analysis shows both similarities and differences in metaphor usage, structure, and function across the two languages.
