Under the unified model of AGN the difference between between Seyfert 1 and 2AGN is explained as an effect of orientation relative to the observer. Seyfert2s are seen edge-on with the broad line region obscured by a dusty torus. Thistheory is motivated by the observation of ???hidden??? broad lines in someSeyfert 2s. However not all Seyfert 2s have polarized broad lines suggestingthat the unified model is incomplete and that there are physical differencesbetween some Seyfert 1s and 2s. We propose to extend a sample of ???true???Seyfert 2 candidates that have been observed by both SDSS and the Chandra X-rayObservatory by obtaining high-quality XMM-Newton spectra for 11 sources withinsufficient signal in the Chandra observations to place constraints on their absorption.
