Three hydrographic surveys (Front Hunts 3, 4, and 5) were conducted off the inlets of Wassaw, Ossabaw, and St. Catherines during October and November 1976 and April 1977 (Figure 1). These surveys measured the density structure of the frontal zone separating coastal river runoff from the waters of the open continental shelf. A limited amount of current meter data was obtained during one 13-hour anchor station off Ossabaw. Grant no. 04-7-158-44126
