Transcription in vascular, interstitial, alveolar and BALF neutrophils during pneumococcal pneumonia

The goal of this study is to investigate changes in gene transcription during pneumonia in neutrophils in various locations in the lung (vasculature, intersitium, alveolus and lavageate). C57BL/6 mice were infected with S. pneumoniae or saline control for 24 hours. Flow cytometry assisted cell sorting (FACS) and intravascular (IV) and intratracheal (IT) dyes were used to identify and isolate neutrophils from lung vasculature, interstitium, alveolus and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF).
