The invention relates to a method for forming and treating a fibrous material suspension (1)， suitable for producing paper webs or paper web layers， made from pulp and water， wherein the fibrous material suspension (1) is guided from a pulp vat (2) via a plurality of treatment stages to a plurality of storage units (3， 4). Here， high strength of the paper web with costs that are as low as possible is intended to be made possible in that the fibrous material suspension (1)， after the pulp vat (2)， is cleaned in a cleaning stage (5) and， in a subsequent fractionating stage (6) is divided into a short-fibre fraction (7) with a high content of short fibres and a long-fibre fraction (8) with a high content of long fibres， and the two fractions (7， 8) are subsequently each guided into in each case at least one storage unit (3， 4) through a plurality of dewatering stages (9， 10， 11， 12).
