CHO-2007 Dataset: Leisure profiles and physical activity in Canarian adolescents (pre-smartphone generation)

Anonymised dataset from the CHO-2007 survey (Cuestionario sobre Hábitos de Ocio), n = 815 first-year compulsory secondary education students (aged 12–13) from 11 state secondary schools in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. Data collection: 2 May – 15 June 2007 — the weeks immediately preceding the iPhone launch (29 June 2007). Contents (99 items organised in blocks):- 12-item leisure interest battery (1–5 Likert): team sports, recreational physical activities, watching TV, using computer, video games, shopping, socialising with friends, reading, playing musical instruments, visiting museums, studying, learning languages.- 11-item technology inventory (ordinal ownership scale): mobile phone, MP3 player, games console, computer, digital camera, etc.- Consumption attitudes (4 Likert items).- Leisure time use (hours/day: TV, internet, studying, reading).- Family relationship quality (1 = very good to 4 = poor).- Substance use: tobacco, alcohol, cannabis.- Academic performance: number of failed subjects, second trimester report.- Demographics: gender, school, class group. Instrument: ad-hoc questionnaire developed for the institutional campaign "Educa tu Ocio" (Educate Your Leisure), funded by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports of the Canary Islands Government. Not previously validated psychometrically. Exploratory psychometric properties (EFA, PCA + Varimax, n = 764): KMO = .702, Bartlett's χ²(66) = 1267.9, p < .001.
