I considered data from the same male in different years to be independent. Please see Chapters 4 and 20 for methods for assigning paternities of prairie dog weanlings. Standard errors were usually small, because my sample sizes for each age were large. In some cases, I have shown SEM = 0.4 for numbers of sexual partners, weanlings, or yearlings to show small SEMs that extend slightly beyond the circles— because showing slightly inflated SEMs is better than suggesting no variation at all, in my opinion.
