The identification and characterization of fungi using DNA sequencing is very importand in bioremediation. The genus Trichoderma is genetically very diverse with a number of capabilities among different strains with agricultural and industrial significance. It is also tolerant to a range of recalcitrant pollutants including heavy metals, pesticides, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons. For the identification of genus Trichoderma we use DNA sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and the nuclear ribosomal large subunit (LSU) gene.
