Novel species of actinomycetes from the DSMZ collection

Microbial culture collections host a large number of strains with ambiguous taxonomical determination, many deposited decades ago when molecular-based taxonomy was not available; for this reason most of these strains were never included in public catalogues. We are recovering and characterising through advanced modern taxonomy techniques, including chemo-taxonomy and genome sequencing, dozens of actinomycete strains deposited at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ - German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures. This active BioProject brings together the genome assembly of all these strains, many of them found to be novel species, that are now being made available worldwide through the DSMZ's public catalogue of microorganisms for first time.
