Cross - sectional and quantitative study, carried out at Primary Health Care in the city of Parnamirim/Rio Grande do Norte/Brazil. The city has 30 family health units that cover the whole territory, which are distributed in six districts. The population was constituted by individuals with active venous ulcer, accompanied at the Health Units of the Parnamirim Family. For the beginning of the research, visits were made to all health units to verify with the nurses and family health agents the number of people with active venous ulcer. At the end of the visits, 62 patients were informed. To be included in the research, the respondents were in the inclusion criteria: • Be over 18 years old; • Being attached to some basic health unit; • Have at least one active venous ulcer. The exclusion criteria were: • Completely healed ulcer; • Ulcer of mixed or non-venous origin; • Individuals who belong to areas of health teams that the nurses or health agents responsible are on leave or vacations at the time of collection, due to the difficulty of locating them without their help. Home visits were made to the patients, where three of them were excluded because they were not found after three visits. Thus, from the calculation for finite populations⁹, a sample of 54 people, representative of all districts and health units, was established. Data were collected between August and October 2017. Three instruments were used: • A structured form of sociodemographic, health and care characterization¹⁰; • Short Form 36 (SF-36), composed of 36 questions and divided into eight domains and two dimensions, with a score ranging from zero to 100, where the higher the score the better the QoL⁷. • Charing Cross Venous Ulcer Questionnaire (CCVUQ), which evaluates QoL in people with VU, in its translated and validated version for Brazil. This instrument is divided into four domains: social interaction, domestic activities, aesthetics and emotional state and can generate a total or domain score, both ranging from zero to 100, growing negatively⁸. Data were organized into tables in Microsoft Excel and exported to a program of statistical data packages, in which descriptive and inferential analyzes (frequency, minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation and Spearman correlation) were performed considering the significance value p <0.05. The following criteria were used for the Cronbach's α test to verify the consistency of the scales: up to 0.39 = weak; between 0.40 and 0.69 = moderate; 0.70 to 1 = strong¹¹. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, with CAAE nº 65941417.8.0000.5537, with compliance with the norms for research with human beings according to Resolution 466/2012¹². For the participants of the research the objectives and importance of this study were clarified and the signing of the Term of Free and Informed Consent (TCLE) was requested.
