Phytophthora cactorum strain:10300 Transcriptome or Gene expression

Phytophthora cactorum is a widespread and destructive plant pathogen. However, genetic resistance and fungicides often fail to manage it due to little knowledge on the molecular basis of P. cactorum pathogenicity. We made the first deep sequencing of the transcriptome, which can provide a wealth of information about the genes expressed during the pre-infection stages of P. cactorum. A large number of candidate genes associated with pathogenicity can be identified and their function can be studied in detail. This study provides a first look at the transcriptome of P. cactorum during the important pre-infection stages. The dataset will ultimately help to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the pathogenicity and to design novel control strategies for the diseases caused by P. cactorum. This research should be of direct interest to plant pathologists, mycologist, or those persons concerned with plant protection.
