FOXP2: The Speech Gene Revisited
For decades, scientists have treated FOXP2—the so-called “speech gene”—as proof that language slowly evolved through lucky mutations and natural selection. But what if the evidence tells a different story? This paper proposes a bold, testable model: FOXP2 variation in humans and Neanderthals was designed from the beginning as functional allelic diversity—not a random accident of evolution.
From the KE family’s devastating FOXP2 mutation to “humanized” mice that sing differently, the data are clear: speech depends on precise, pre-tuned genetic programming. Our findings show:
🧩 No intermediate forms: Neanderthals and humans share the same FOXP2 configuration.
🔬 Functional from day one: Disruptions cause disorder, not new abilities.
📜 Testable predictions: Ancient DNA and functional assays can confirm whether FOXP2 arose by chance—or by design.
Conclusion: The probability of FOXP2 evolving through random mutation is astronomically small. The evidence fits a creation model—speech was built in from the start.
