资源简介:
Site 5EA2145 consists of an isolated hearth exposed in a road cutbank west of McCoy,
Colorado. Fill from the hearth was examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. The hearth had
been heavily disturbed by road maintenance activities and was in danger of being destroyed;
therefore, a salvage operation was undertaken to obtain radiocarbon, subsistence, and
paleoclimatic samples. Charred material from the hearth yielded a calibrated radiocarbon date of
3250 ± 60 years B.P. (Beta 180108), indicating an Archaic Era occupation in the Transitional period
(Reed and Metcalf 1999: 6, 79). Pollen and macrofloral analyses are used to provide information
concerning plant resources processed in the hearth and woods burned as fuel, as well as
paleoclimate information.
