Dietary polyphenols are natural compounds occurring in plants, including foods such as fruits, vegetables, cereals, tea, coffee and wine. Epidemiological studies and associated meta-analyses strongly suggest that long term consumption of diets rich in plant polyphenols offer protection against development several chronic diseases. In this study, the long term consumption of anthocyanin-rich fruit juice impacts the gut microbiota enriching specific bacteria and increase the expression of important antioxidative markers.
