Our goal is to understand the relation between the magnetism and hybridization of Fe 3d orbitals and graphene 2p orbitals. The electronic structure around the transition metal ions were engineered using the ligands. We plan to use element selective fluorescence x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) measurements to identify the local spin of Fe as well as resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS), to gain insights into the nature of bonding of the 3d orbitals.
