Paenibacillus sp. S150 was isolated in December 2016 by Rana Haidar at INRAE/Bordeaux. The strain was isolated from the transition wood tissue between the necrotic and non-necrotic zones of grapevine cordon. Bacterial isolation was carried out on 12-year old vines of the cultivar Sauvignon blanc (Vitis vinifera L.) grafted onto the rootstock 101-14 MGt sampled in an experimental vineyard located near Bordeaux (INRA, Villenave d'Ornon, France). Selected grapevine plants previously expressed esca-foliar symptoms at least twice, over a period of 4 years (2012-2016).
