Aquaculture has the potential to generate strong environmental impact due to high organic matter load, including emerging organic contaminant, such as the fish food additives Ethoxyquin, widely used as an antioxidant in the feed fish. In this study, natural marine microbial activity responses to EQ additions were studied in microcosms seawater experiments from two contrasting areas, Achao and Coliumo bay, where the first is influenced by aquaculture activity. Overall, our study indicates EQ may generate both changes in the metabolism of the microbial community and modifications in microbial assemblages., producing effects on the degradation of organic matter.
