delta proteobacterium MLMS-1. This chemoautotrophic strain was isolated from Mono Lake, California, which is rich in arsenic and has high pH and salt concentrations. This organism can oxidize sulfide to sulfate while reducing arsenate to arsenite and can also incorporate carbon while in the dark.
