Smart monitoring of low voltage networks to combat illegal power connections

This paper proposes a fully automated and cost-effective LV network monitoring and control system based on an Internet of Things (IoT) architecture for LV automation, monitoring, and control, and presents a working prototype. The system detects electricity theft as it emerges within LV networks and autonomously isolates affected feeder segments to disconnect illegally connected users. By reducing non-technical losses, the proposed solution supports grid modernization and smart-grid deployment while enhancing public safety.
