Excel Data Download From August 2023 to December 2023, NJDEP collected 157 soil samples throughout New Jersey’s 21 counties. Samples were collected from publicly accessible land (e.g., state, county, municipal parks) and were split between urban (n = 83) and rural (n = 74) areas based on the 2020 United States Census definition (U.S. Census Bureau, 2022). No samples were collected from locations with a history of agricultural use dating back to 1940 to avoid potential PFAS contamination from biosolids application. In addition, all samples were collected from locations spatially distant from known sources of PFAS contamination or presumptive sources of potential PFAS contamination with the goal of avoiding locations that may have been impacted by a direct PFAS discharge. Collected samples were analyzed for 40 PFAS compounds using EPA method 1633. Only compounds detected in each sample are labeled. Any compound reported as non-detect by the laboratory was replaced with ½ the Method Detection Limit (MDL) for the specific sample. A qualifier field was generated for each individual PFAS compound indicating whether the result was non-detect. Y indicates that the result was non-detect and that the value in the corresponding field is ½ the MDL. N indicates the compound was detected and the value is reported in the corresponding field. ½ the MDL was used for the purpose of this study and is not intended for remediation purposes. This study utilized a value of ½ of the Method Detection Limit (MDL) to represent Non-Detects in data sets for statistical and mapping purposes. Please note the use of ½ of the MDL is limited to this study and should not be used to represent Non-Detect values in compliance averaging calculations where ½ of the Report Limit is specified as per the Technical Guidance for the Attainment of Remediation Standards and Site-Specific Criteria (see Appendix C).
