Dataset of tweets collected from London for the study “Private garden uses and associated mental well-being benefits during the first UK Covid-19 lockdown – a social media investigation”

Private garden uses and associated mental well-being benefits during the first UK Covid-19 lockdown – a social media investigation. <i>PLOS ONE</i>, <i>21</i>(4), e0289446. https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0289446<br><br>This dataset contains the tweet IDs of the 8,866 tweets collected via the X/Twitter API (Full Archive Search) that formed the basis of the study. In accordance with X/Twitter data-sharing guidelines, only tweet IDs (i.e. dehydrated tweets) are provided, rather than tweet text. The original posts can be rehydrated from the platform using the tweet IDs, subject to their continued availability.Tweets were collected from London, UK, for two study periods: the first UK Covid-19 lockdown in 2020 and a control period in 2019. All collected tweets were used in the study’s quantitative analyses (including word count analysis). The dataset indicates which tweets were screened for qualitative analysis.During the screening process, tweets from both study periods were reviewed, and 300 tweets from each period (600 in total) that met the study criteria were selected for detailed qualitative thematic analysis.For the tweets included in the qualitative analysis, the dataset also provides the coding results of the abductive thematic analysis, including categories relating to garden use and, where applicable, reported mental well-being benefits.Please consult the associated publication for full methodological details and analytical context.
